Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the documents in a Lebanese driving license file

What documents do I need to get a driving license in Lebanon?

A complete file contains a judicial record (criminal-record extract), a medical certificate, a copy of your ID or a civil status extract, two certified passport-size photos, proof of residence, a blood-type card, and an affidavit from your driving school confirming your mandatory lessons.

Where do I get a judicial record in Lebanon?

The judicial record (criminal-record extract) is issued by the General Directorate of Local Administrations and Councils in Adlieh, for around LBP 500,000, or through OMT branches.

Who issues the medical certificate?

A doctor issues the fitness-to-drive certificate, which must carry your passport photo and be stamped. For a license renewal, the Traffic Management Authority specifies a certificate issued by the Physicians' Syndicate.

How recent do my documents need to be?

It depends on the document and the procedure. A civil status (Individual Record) extract must be no older than 3 months. For a renewal, the Traffic Management Authority requires both the judicial record and the medical certificate to be dated within the last 3 months. Confirm the current windows with the centre before you file.

Do my photos need to be certified?

Yes. You need two recent passport-size photos certified by the Mukhtar of your locality.

What documents do non-Lebanese applicants need?

Non-Lebanese applicants must present a valid residency permit alongside the standard file. Converting an existing foreign license is a different procedure with its own documents — including a statement from the issuing country's traffic department, authenticated by that country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Do I need to take driving lessons before the exam?

Yes. You must complete 7 mandatory lessons with a certified driving school, and the school's affidavit confirming them is part of your application file.
